On the sideline of the conference, the city also launched the Japan Desk to help improve the investment environment and resolve difficulties faced Japanese firms during their operation in the locality.
Nguyen Khanh Tung, Director of the city’s Center for Investment, Trade and Exhibition Fairs, said that the Japan Desk include 14 Vietnamese and Japanese members headed by Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Truong Quang Hoai Nam.
The Japan Desk will work to improve the city’s investment and business environment besides enhancing the attraction of Japanese investors to the city.
It will also act as a bridge to link Japanese investors and the city's relevant agencies in providing information as well as supporting and solving difficulties faced Japanese investors who are doing business in the city.
The Can Tho’s Japan Desk will connect with the Japan Desk in other cities and provinces nation-wide as well as with Japan’s investment and trade promotion organizations.
Japan is considered as a strategic partner of Can Tho City, especially in terms of high-tech agricultural and infrastructure development.
At a recent meeting with Can Tho City’s leaders, Kyoshiro Ichikawa, Director of I.B.C Vietnam Co. Ltd and advisor to the Japan Desk, said that in the second half of 2017 and 2018, Japan Desk will receive over 200 Japanese firms who will come to survey investment opportunities in Can Tho.
In 2015, Can Tho signed a cooperation deal with I.B.C Vietnam Co., Ltd to boost connections with Japan and to conduct investment promotion activities to help Japanese firms and individuals to conduct surveys and carry out investment projects in Can Tho and vice versa.
