"BEYOND SOUND": Day 02 – Porta Chiusa
On the 2nd day of the experimental music series "BEYOND SOUND", Heritage Space – in collaboration with DomDom – will bring a new, unique and promising color: Porta Chiusa.
Created by Paed Conca, Hans Koch and Michael Thieke in 2009, Porta Chiusa is a clarinet trio with a strong focus on compositions using microtonal and multi-phonic techniques.
On their first tour in Vietnam, Porta Chiusa will bring to Hanoi audiences a variety of compositions in a very pioneering spirit, and a unique style of the trio clarinet with classic origin. The band will also contribute many improvised performances with two young Vietnamese improvised artists, Nguyen Thu Thuy (đàn tỳ bà – stringed instrument) and Nguyen Do Minh Quan (electronic music).
About Porta Chiusa
Porta Chiusa part one is an interdisciplinary performance that combines two film projections, a spoken-word text, and a live musical performance. It is based on the conflict that we are experiencing at the beginning of the 21st century, namely that of a world built upon national states, in which people are still not treated equally; in which we still speak about color and race; in which nutrition, health and access to education are still greatly conditioned by hierarchal classification.
The main theme underlining the performance is the conflict between the “recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world,” (Declaration of Human Rights from December 10th, 1948) and the fact that this dignity is increasingly violated.
About the series:
‘BEYOND SOUND’ is a series of concerts of experimental music aiming to reveal the latest works of Vietnamese and foreign composer/ musician. The program is curated and organized by Heritage Space and Dom Dom.
An Art Talk with Porta Chiusa for the public will be hosted at 11:30am, Nov 30 2017 at Puppet Cafe, alley 125 Giang Vo st., Hanoi. Porta Chiusa will performed on 1 Dec 2017, 8 – 10 pm at Heritage Space.
