14:17, 2016/08/16
The classical ballets Serenade and Bolero created by the late Russian-American choreographer George Balanchine will be performed at the HCM City Opera House on August 19 and October 19.
Balanchine, one of the 20th century’s most prominent choreographers, was the co-founder of the School of American Ballet and New York City Ballet. He choreographed a total of 400 works.
In 1934, he choreographed Serenade to the music of Tchaikovsky in New York, with a performance by the School of American Ballet, and in 1975, he introduced Bolero, with music by Ravel, featuring the New York City Ballet.
The "Ballet with Tchaikovsky and Ravel" programme will feature French dancer Chloé Glemot, a teacher at the HCM City-based Dancenter Studio since 2013.

The “Ballet with Tchaikovsky and Ravel” programme will feature both foreign and Vietnamese dancers.

Glemot was trained at the Paris Opera Ballet School between 1996 and 2003. She worked as a professional dancer for the American Ballet Theater in New York, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens in Montreal and English National Ballet in London.
In 2006, she completed teacher training at the National Dance Centre in Paris. She has also taught ballet for children and adults at conservatories and schools in Paris.
The programme at the Opera House will include French choreographer Julien Guerin’s ballet Dépaysement, based on the music of Chopin, Satie, Faure, Beethoven, Albioni and Giazotto.
Guerin began studying dance at the La Rochelle Conservatory in France when he was nine years old, and completed training at the National Superior Conservatory of Paris for Music and Dance.
In 2001, he joined the Junior Ballet and then the Atlantic Southeast Ballet in the US state of South Carolina.
After earning a degree as a ballet teacher from National Dance Centre in Paris in 2005, Julien joined several ballets, including the English National Ballet and the Ballet of the National Opera of Bordeaux.
He has created and choreographed ballets such as Somina Vertigo and Beaudelaireans Souls.
The “Ballet with Tchaikovsky and Ravel” performance will also feature dancers from the HCM City Ballet Symphony Orchestra and Opera (HBSO).
The show will begin at 8 pm at 7 Lam Sơn Square in District 1.
