Asia Architecture Design Awards 2023: Rising entries from Vietnam
Ngo Minh 21:25, 2023/04/06
Among the 325 projects vying for the Asia Architecture Design Awards are some remarkable projects from Vietnam.

Vietnam is one of the nations actively participating in the Asia Architecture Design Awards (AADA) 2023, according to early data provided by the organizing committee.

Dylan Yip, Vice President of partnership development at Asia Awards Organization, organizer of AADA, said that most Vietnamese entries came from a pseudo-classical and post-modern design perspective. Regarding the look, "super skyscrapers" still need work compared to those in Dubai, Singapore, and Hong Kong.

"I have always believed that Vietnamese architecture must preserve its national cultural identity while integrating with the rest of the world in an unusual endeavor. This will drastically change Vietnamese design compared to other nations. For example, there are buildings in Singapore or China that are well-known and have a sense of place,” he said.

According to Yip, a cultural imprint will be a building block for Vietnamese architecture's rapid development and global expansion.

Yip would like to see a famous structure created in Vietnam by local or foreign architects. Vietnam will increase its influence in Asia if one of its landmarks is recognized by Guinness World Records.

He advocated preserving Vietnam's national cultural character through architecture to pass it on to future generations. They will feel proud of the country's past and famous architectural structures.

Since its debut in December 2022, AADA has attracted great interest from architects, designers, and large and small organizations in the industry, with hundreds of projects and works submitted from countries across Asia.

The organizing committee has received approximately 325 entries submitted, with many outstanding projects from India, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and the Philippines. All of these countries are experiencing strong infrastructural and architectural development. Each country has its own unique cultural and architectural characteristics, creating diversity in the scope of the Asia Architecture Design Awards, which is under the Asia Awards Organization (AAO).

"We are not surprised to receive AADA registration profiles from India, Thailand, and Vietnam," said Dylan Yip.

India dominates the residential architecture category with several outstanding examples of religious and contemporary technological fusion. Thailand stands out in the commercial interior category with projects for museums, amusement parks, and car showrooms. Meanwhile, Vietnam has many buildings, including hotels, resorts, and offices.

Thirty award categories in six disciplines (Architecture Design, Interior Design, Furniture Design, Architecture Design Firm, Interior Design Firm, and Firms in Furniture Manufacturing) are open for submissions in the Asia Architecture Design Awards, which are scheduled to close on April 30, 2023.

Between April and June 2023, a distinguished panel of 20 experts from the fields of real estate, architecture, and interior design, among others, will preside over judging the awards. The most outstanding projects and companies will be announced at the Winners' Night in Singapore in July 2023.

The AAO, a Singapore-based group, is proud to host three prestigious awards recognized in various industries and fields. The first is the AADA aiming to promote talented individuals or companies in the developing Asian architecture and design sector and provide them with a platform to showcase their excellent work internationally.
