ASEAN+3 Song Contest is ready.
A large stage with 1,500 seats is ready for the qualifying and final rounds of the competition hosted by the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) to celebrate the 50th founding anniversary of ASEAN.
Ms. Nguyen Thuy Hoa, Director of VOV’s International Cooperation Department, said the contestants and guest singers have a good impression on Vietnam. “Everything is ready. The contestants are so excited,” Hoa added.
The contestants are aged from 18 to 35. Thai singer Paisarn Sunggoon said, “It’s great to honor for me to represent Thailand at the contest. This is an opportunity for me to exchange experience and make new friends. More importantly, I can introduce Thai songs to ASEAN friends”.
The semi-final round takes place on Saturday night at FLC Resort in the central province of Thanh Hoa. 10 best contestants will be chosen for the finale on August 20.
The contest attracts singers from ASEAN, Japan, China, and South Korea. Pop music was selected as a medium to encourage enthusiastic exchanges between the young people of ASEAN countries. 24 singers,19 from ASEAN countries and 5 from China, South Korea, and Japan, will participate in the contest.
Contestants will demonstrate their own musical technique and voice as well as the cultural identity of their country. Through music, the audiences will better understand the rich cultures of ASEAN countries.
This is the first time that Voice of Vietnam has hosted a pop singing contest for ASEAN members. According to VOV Vice President Vu Hai, previously, Voice of Vietnam organized an ASEAN singing contest where singers performed different musical genres. This year, VOV selected Pop because we want to focus on young singers aged between 18 and 35. ASEAN is 50 years old now and its future depends on the younger generation, who will join efforts to develop the ASEAN Community, which was set up in 2015 on the three pillars of Politics, Economics, and Culture. Music will contribute to ASEAN friendship and strength.
Hosting the ASEAN+3 Song Contest, VOV wants to demonstrate its important role as a national media agency in boosting Vietnam’s cooperation with other countries and creating an environment of peace, friendship, and development.
