"ASEAN - Colours of culture" exhibition kicked off in Hanoi

Women`s Union of Vietnam and the ASEAN Women`s Circle of Hanoi (AWCH) jointly opened the exhibition themed "ASEAN - Colours of culture" to mark the 49th anniversary of ASEAN (August 8, 1967-2016) in Hanoi on August 3.
The exhibition also aims to celebrate the first anniversary of the ASEAN Women's Circle of Hanoi (AWCH).
On the occasion, the organising board presented 10 gifts for disadvantaged women in Hanoi city.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ambassador Nguyen Nguyet Nga - AWCH Emeritus Chairman said the exhibition aims to promote understanding and friendship, as well as significantly contribute to build a cooperative, mutual development and united ASEAN community.
The confidence in the strength of the spirit of solidarity and the “unity in diversity” is key for the connections between nations in Southeast Asia under the common roof of ASEAN, she said, adding that similarities in history, tradition and culture have brought ASEAN nations closer together. 
She said that the diversity and uniqueness of the cultures have made an attractive identity for the ASEAN Community and bring the association to flourish beyond the region. 

Ambassador Nga added that this year's exhibition which features images of countries, people and products with the national identity of each ASEAN member, is a vivid picture of the diversified and colourful culture of the region.
Shared at the sidelines of the event, Vadsana Phomvihane, spouse of the Lao Ambassador in Vietnam, AWCH First Deputy Chairwoman said in the past year, the circle founded on August 8, 2015, has actively implemented various activities to help Vietnamese women in particular and those in the ASEAN member countries in general.
In November 2015, the AWCH organised a ASEAN food festival and carried out extracurricular activities helping the disadvantaged in Ha Giang province.

Besides, a cultural exchange between the ASEAN member countries is held by the circle every 2 months.
In 2016, the AWCH will strengthen the development of women role and status, especially in the social and cultural issues.
In addition, skillful craft products of  ASEAN member countries were also dislayed at the exhibition.
During the exhibition, Malaysian tourism Counselor in Vietnam Abdul Hadi Che Man introduced the traditional costumes worn by the people of Malaysia with bright colours and made of Songket fabric.
