You are invited to a film screen “The Young Karl Marx” at the Goethe Institut.
For which ideals did Karl Marx stand for? For whom and which interests was he talking? “We are mistaken if we associate him only with the Soviet Union or the GDR,” says August Diehl, who plays the famous economist in the film “The Young Karl Marx”. The ideas and utopia of communism had a lot to do with the aftermath of the French Revolution, and the big the call for freedom.
“The Young Karl Marx” is the first film about the life of Karl Marx before he wrote the Communist Manifesto. The film sheds light on the path of the young philosopher Marx to a revolutionary, and is dedicated to the emerging friendship with Friedrich Engels, his experiences with political oppression and the debates and promises of a new international socialist movement.
The film is a German-French co-production by film director Raoul Peck. He was born in 1953 in Port-au-Prince. He grew up in what was then Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo), in the US and in France. In Berlin he studied industrial engineering and film. In 1986 he founded Velvet Film in Germany, where all his films are produced.

Anna Hogberg (Sweden)
Anna is a singing teacher, choir conductor and assistant professor in Aesthetic Learning Processes at Södertörn University (Sweden). She has previously worked at the University of Pretoria (South Africa) and College for the Arts (Windhoek, Namibia) as a singing teacher with focus on jazz improvisation and interpretation.
As a solo singer she prefers the jazz genres, soul and rhythm ‘n blues. Anna has a long experience of singing in several choirs and acapella vocal groups as well as with big bands. She has written music, mainly for choir, which has been published in Sweden. As a choir singer she’s been touring in Europe, Asia and North America.

First lantern road around Hoan Kiem walking street
If you’re looking for the perfect family friendly activity this weekend, consider attending the first lantern road around the Hoan Kiem walking street in Hanoi. The Mid-Autumn Festival with the first lantern road around Hoan Kiem walking street will take place in September 23.
This event, organized by the Hanoi People’s Committee in coordination with Phuong Dong Joint Stock Company, aims to bring a colorful mid-autumn festival to children in Hanoi.
Especially, the festival will introduce hundreds of colorful giant lanterns and stars on display along the road, which is promised to be an ideal check in area for families, pedestrians and visitors on the night of the mid-autumn festival.
Various activities will be held during the event including comedy, music and circus performances by popular artists such as Xuan Bac and Tu Long. In addition, children will be in with a chance of receiving interesting gifts like traditional folk toys and participating in a flash mob dance on the pedestrian street.
Visitors can call at pavilions selling traditional toys for the mid-autumn festival and join dragon dances, lantern processions and a street carnival through the ancient streets of Hanoi’s Old Quarter.
