5.4 million tourist arrivals to Vietnam
Vietnam welcomed more than 5.4 million foreign visitors in the first eight months of this year.
According to the General Statistics Office, Vietnam greeted a large number tourists, making an increase of 12.2%, in comparison to the same period last year.
Of the total, 3.3 million arrived in the country for leisure, up 10.5%; 919,757 for business purposes, up 12.9%; 941,515 were visiting relatives, up 15.8 % and 307,309 were in Vietnam for ‘other’ purposes.
Vietnam’s major tourism markets saw impressive growth, including growth from Hong Kong (China) up 52.5%, Germany up 73%, Cambodia up 36%, Italy up 19%, Taiwan (China) up 54.9% and Thailand up 40%.
Visitors from China topped the list, with 135,170 visitors; followed by the Republic of Korea with 87,457 travellers; the US with 32,067; and 24,024 visitors from Russia.
