Yen Bai province has submitted application to seek for the Guinness World Records recognition of the massive folk dance performance gathering 5,000 participants this September 20, Tuoi tre News reported.
Accordingly, 5,000 artisans and those from Thai ethnic minority will join in a Xoe dance performance at the opening ceremony of “Muong Lo Cultural and Tourism Festival; Discovering the National Vestige of rice terraces in Mu Cang Chai” in Yen Bai province.
The last massive Xoe dance in 2013 in this province was also registered as a record with the participation of 2,013 people.
As a traditional dance of the Thai ethnic minority, mua xoe involves people holding hands and performing six traditional acts, including welcoming, clapping hands, waving scarves, and offering wine.
The director of the opening ceremony, Le Hai Yen, said that the registration process for the Guinness World Record is running smoothly but the interpretation must respond to the strict conditions of the organization to be recognized.
