139 best photos on Hanoi’s suburban life on display
The exhibition is among the events to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Hanoi’s boundary expansion.

As many as 139 photos on the suburban life in Hanoi are being displayed at an exhibition with theme “Life in Hanoi's suburbs” which opened at 45 Trang Tien Street, Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi on August 3.
They are all the winning works of the 48th fine art photography contest which was held to celebrate the August Revolution (August 19), National Day (September 2), the 64 anniversary of Hanoi’s Liberation Day (October 10) and 10th years of Hanoi’s administrative boundary expansion.
The organizing board received some 1,750 photos from 293 photographers since the competition was launched two months ago. In particular, many photos were taken in four districts namely Dan Phuong, Thanh Tri, Hoai Duc and Dong Anh, which which have met requirements for new style rural development.
A decade after the boundary expansion, Hanoi has seen remarkable progress with achievements recorded in multiple fields, including politics, economy, society, and culture, according to Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Ngo Thi Thanh Hang.
Hanoi’s rural areas have also experienced significant changes that help the city lead the country in the new-style rural area construction with 76.2% of communes and four districts gaining the status, she added.
On this occasion, the organizing board gave 16 awards to excellent works and photographers at the 48th Art Photo Contest 2018.
The exhibition, which will run through August 7, is expected to help promote efforts by the administration and people of Hanoi over the past decade and motivate the development of the city.
All of former Ha Tay province and parts of Hoa Binh and Vinh Phuc provinces were merged into Hanoi in 2008, increasing the city's size to more than 3,300 square kilometers with 29 districts.
Hanoi has maintained high annual economic growth rate since the expansion. Annual gross regional domestic product (GRDP) has grown by an average of 7.41% each year. Many indicators have doubled or even tripled, such as farmers’ per capita income up 2.92 times, and budget collections up 2.93 times, according to the Hanoi Department of Planning and Investment.
The city welcomed 4.95 million overnight visitors in 2017, about 2.8 times higher than that in 2008. Hanoi was also listed among the world’s top 10 fastest-growing tourism cities in 2017 by Mastercard Global Services.
