After being jointly managed by eight departments for a long time, West Lake has now been officially transferred to the Tay Ho District People's Committee for management. This is a prerequisite for Tay Ho District to effectively tap the potential and value of West Lake, especially in tourism and service development.

It is a public service unit under the Tay Ho District People's Committee.

The West Lake Management Board is responsible for assisting the Tay Ho District People's Committee in the comprehensive, centralized, and unified management of the West Lake area and its surroundings, according to the regulations of the municipal People's Committee.

The West Lake Management Board is also the body responsible for leading and coordinating with relevant units to develop projects and plans for the management, investment, use, and exploitation of the West Lake and its surrounding areas; to preserve historical cultural relics, landscapes, and the environment, and to ensure the sustainable development of the West Lake area and its surrounding areas.

West Lake is a famous landscape and cultural and historical site of Hanoi with a large water surface area of 526 hectares, around the lake there are 71 cultural and historical relics such as Tran Quoc Pagoda, Kim Lien Pagoda, Tay Ho Temple, and others.

The project is also expected to promote Tay Ho District as a prominent cultural and tourism center in the capital. Photo: Pham Hung/The Hanoi Times

Around the West Lake, there are many famous thousand-year-old craft villages such as Do (poonah) paper making in An Thai Buoi Village, cherry blossom growing in Nhat Tan Village, kumquat growing in Tu Lien Village, Phu Thuong sticky rice village, Quang An lotus tea making village. Therefore, the conservation and exploitation of West Lake have been regularly paid attention to and directed by all levels of government.

At the inauguration ceremony on January 31, Le Thi Thu Hang, Secretary of the Tay Ho District Party Committee, asked the West Lake Management Board to urgently draw up work regulations and assign specific tasks to officials and staff so that they can start work immediately. The top priority is to develop a key work program for 2024, with a project to 'plan, manage, conserve and promote the values of the West Lake and its surroundings' as a priority.

The project is also expected to promote Tay Ho District as a prominent cultural and tourism center in the capital.
