The analysis must be predictable about the global and regional situation and impact on the country.
Secretary General of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and President Nguyen Phu Trong has asked CPV members to keep an eye on the South China Sea situation to point out possible scenarios.

“We should make scientific analysis and forecast on the domestic and international situation, mostly those in the South China Sea,” the president said at the 11th plenary session of the Party Central Committee which convened in Hanoi today [October 7].

The analysis and forecast must be comprehensive of both opportunities and challenges, President Trong said at the event which will last until October 13, local media reported.

The analysis would be important to examine the impact of the global and regional situation on the country and to set socio-economic targets for 2020, Trong said at the opening remarks.

This is a rare statement which the president mentioned the South China Sea issue. Early last month, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc raised voice about the sovereignty protection after Chinese ships intruded into Vietnamese waters for almost two months.

Vietnam has taken “all actions possible to combat foreign activities that violate our sovereignty” in the South China Sea, PM Phuc said at a regular cabinet meeting, local media reported.

“Our forces have made all efforts to protect the sovereignty under the Party and State’s leadership,” he said without mentioning China.

This plenary session will focus on discussions of documents which would be submitted to the party’s 13th Congress, the socio-economic and budget for 2019, plans for the development in 2020, and many other important issues.

Of the issues, discussions on the Party building and the country’s socio-economic in the next five and 10 years and vision to 2045 are in the spotlight.

Accordingly, the party members are asked to see if the draft documents are specific and suitable enough to continue the tasks.
