The event, held under a campaign launched by the Let's Do It! Hanoi project, involves hundreds of volunteers of different ages with the aim of raising public awareness and calling for action for the capital's green environment.

By noon, the volume of garbage collected at Pham Hung Street amounted to 1,846 kg, mainly plastic cups and bags, confectionery packaging and especially cigarette filters.

"After a period of being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, this year's World Cleanup Day is once again one of the programs to encourage the community to continue contributing to environmental protection as well as switching to a sustainable lifestyle. Thanks to the cooperation of the local authority and public support, the volume of waste in the implementation areas has decreased remarkably and people's awareness has gradually changed," said Hanoi project coordinator Nguyen Thi Cam Tu.

Let's Do It! Hanoi is a member of Let's Do It! Vietnam, part of the Let's Do It! World global environmental network. Founded in June 2018, through the main activity of cleanup, Let's Do It! Hanoi's goal is to raise the citizens' awareness of the current environmental situation, especially the issues of plastic waste and indiscriminate littering.

At the same time, the project aims to reverse the existing indifference to the scenes of streets overflowing with garbage, as well as to steer people away from waste generation through specific actions, such as limiting the use of single-use plastics, putting waste in the right place, properly sorting garbage, and reusing and recycling at home. As a result, the environment in Hanoi is expected to be cleaner and the current environmental situation will improve.
