Hanoi to host series of activities to celebrate Cultural Heritage Day

Hanoi gathers hundreds of craft villages that create the most notable Old Quarter with 36 streets.

Hanoi will celebrate the National Cultural Heritage Day with a series of activities taking place at the iconic Old Quarter from November 22 to December 15.

The special cultural festivities are held to celebrate the 14th anniversary of Vietnam’s Cultural Heritage Day (November 23).

Hanoi gathers hundreds of craft villages that create the most notable Old Quarter with 36 streets.

These activities aim to preserve the heritage values, promote the values of traditional crafts and honor artisans as well as exploit the tourism potential of the Old Quarter and Hanoi.

Accordingly, the Hanoi Old Quarter Culture Exchange Center at 50 Dao Duy Tu street will host an exhibition on silk production and weaving that will introduce to visitors all the stages involved in producing the exquisitely beautiful fabric and garments.

At the center, a spate of activities will include demonstrations by artisan Pham Thi Thuan; a fashion show “Tieng To” (The sound of silk) by designer Trinh Bich Thuy, designer La Hang, designer Thuy Anh; a talk show on “The story of the sound of silk” with the participation of culture researchers, artisans and designers; an art music performance by the Dong Kinh Co Nhac band.

Hanoi Ancient House at 87 Ma May will host a program introducing 100 old Shan snow tea trees in Giang Pang (Yen Bai province) with the theme “The legendary of tea heritages – Giang Pang Sung Do” marking the participation of cuisine artisan Nguyen Cao Son.

Son started researching Vietnamese teas via domestic and international documents in 2007. He has spent time to explore the snow Shan tea in the Northwestern and Northeast regions of Vietnam.

Kim Ngan Temple at 42 Hang Bac, the Old Quarter Management Board will host a photo exhibition themed “Heritages in the heart of Hanoi” by photographer Le Bich.

Also under the framework of the festivities, 30 creations of poets, paintings and letters depicting the beauty of the lotus will transpire at Quan De Temple, 28 Hang Buom street.

The Vietnamese Cultural Heritage Day is an event to preserve the heritage and promote tourism as well as the images of Hanoi’s Old Quarter and Hanoi city. It also helps promote the cooperation among localities in preserving and promoting the intangible cultural heritage values of Vietnam.
