The leader of Hanoi Urban Environment Company (Urenco) said that he will mobilize 100% of human resources to collect garbage in urban districts.
Soc Son district’s on Monday residents removed obstacles to the Waste Treatment Complex, so that garbage trucks can access the dumping site, ending a four-day garbage crisis in Hanoi.

The move came after Soc Son district’s residents received promise of land clearance compensation, support and resettlement from the district authorities.

"This is the first time we have received a detailed compensation plan as the authorities have acquired land to relocate the people living near the dumping site. However, this plan has not yet specified the time to implement the project," said one resident.

Responding to the residents’ questions, an official said that when the households declare their assets and agree on the compensation plan, Hanoi's authorities will announce a specific roadmap for relocation.

A leader of Hanoi Urban Environment Company (Urenco), which is in charge of collecting waste in the inner city, said that it will mobilize 100% of personnel to collect garbage in urban districts and free the downtown from piles of garbage.

The garbage crisis began four days ago, when some residents of Bac Son and Hong Ky communes blocked the entrance to the Soc Son waste treatment complex, leaving downtown areas loaded with garbage. They blamed the authorities for the slow compensation and resettlement, leaving them exposed the diseases due to heavy pollution.

The Soc Son Waste Treatment Complex is the largest in Hanoi, capable of processing 6,000 tons of garbage per day, mainly by landfill.
