Queues form for Chung cakes in Hanoi's Old Quarter
Dtinews/Hanoitimes 18:41, 2015/02/15
A long queue has formed outside a shop in Hanoi`s Old Quarter as city aficionados wait to buy a Tet delicacy, the humble Banh Chung, or Chung cake, which will grace many a table in the coming week.

It is Quoc Huong shop in Hang Bong Street which is famous for its quality of Chung cake, and its Vietnamese pork rolls are popular too.

Fans call it "the shop of the subsidised period”, recalling when Hanoi residents would regularly queue to buy food due to shortages in the 1976-86 period after the end of the American War.

Queues begin forming outside the shop for weeks ahead of the Tet festival and the day's production generally sells out early.
