Vietnam welcomes 8.5 million foreign visitors in H1/2019

In June alone, Vietnam received 1.18 million foreign holidaymakers, down 10.6% from the previous year.
Foreign tourist arrivals to Vietnam in the first six months of 2019 are estimated at 8.5 million, up 7.5%, according to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO).

Of the total, the number of arrivals from Asian countries continued to make up the lion's share, 77.4%. Among them, arrivals from Taiwan – China have risen 27%, those from South Korea 21.3%, and Japan 12.8%.
Meanwhile, the number of holidaymakers from Europe and America was estimated to have picked up by 5.5% and 5.2% from the same period of 2018, respectively.
In June alone, Vietnam welcomed 1.18 million foreign holidaymakers, down 10.6% from the previous year.
Of the foreign visitors in the first half of this year, 6.6 million came to Vietnam by air, up 4.5%, 1.6 million by road, up 24.9%, 139,200 by sea, down 19.9%.
The country expects to welcome some 18 million international visitors this year, compared to 15.5 million in 2018.
Vietnam is striving to lure more visitors via online platform. Tourism Magazine, under the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), and TikTok, a creative social media platform primarily driven by short-video, on June 13 launched a promotion program for Vietnam’s tourism via video hashtag “HelloVietnam”. The program is among activities to promote Vietnam’s tourism with diverse content and honor Vietnamese people’s creativity.
