The event aims to encourage travel firms to promptly apply modern technology to sell their products, thus promoting their capacity to attract and serve customers online.
According to  Vu The Binh, this year’s event is expected to attract about 710 enterprises to showcase their products at 500 booths, tourism authorities from 47 provinces and cities of Vietnam and 25 countries and territories.
More than 18,000 tour packages and 100,000 air tickets with special discounts will be offered at the event.
Major activities will include seminars on green tourism, Vietnam's outbound tourism, Vietnam's tourism and the Fourth Industrial Revolution, conferences, introduction of destinations, and signing ceremonies for several cooperation deals.
One of the highlights of the 2019 VITM is the forum themed “Green Tourism” to be held for the first time. During the forum, delegates will discuss the development of ecotourism, environmental protection and responses to climate change.
In addition, a forum under the theme “Vietnam’s outbound tourism – opportunities and challenges” will discuss hot topics in the context of the number of Vietnamese travelling to foreign countries increasing by 15 - 20% annually.
According to Vu The Binh from the VITA, North Korea will become a special guest at the 2019 VITM. This is the first time, this country introduces its tourism products in a fair in Vietnam. In the first two months of 2019, the national tourism sector saw increases in the number of holidaymakers from most markets, particularly Thailand (36.9%), Taiwan – China (27.1%), South Korea (24.6%), Japan (9.5%), Malaysia (5.3%), Singapore (4.3%).
Vietnam aims to receive about 18 million foreign visitors and 85 million domestic ones in 2019, and earn more than VND700 trillion (US$30.2 billion) from tourism, according to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
