Anh Kiet 23:11, 2020/08/02
All the victims are of advanced ages and have chronic diseases before being infected with Covid-19.

Three women infected with Covid-19 (Patients No.429, 475 and 524) were confirmed dead on August 2, which has brought Vietnam's tally of Covid-19 fatalities to six in the past four days, local media reported.

According to Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son, head of the Covid-19 Special Anti-pandemic Task Forece in Danang city, "Patient 524" was an 86-year-old resident of the central province of Quang Nam. From July 11 to July 16, she was treated at Danang Dermatological Hospital before being referred to several hospitals in Danang city and Quang Nam province. When being transferred to Hue Central Hospital on July 31, she was already weak.

At around 6:00pm on August 1, she fell into a coma before her cardiovascular and respiratory system ceased to function at 10:00pm and died at around 5:30am today.

Her causes of death included septic shock, acute respiratory failure, multiple organ failure and Covid-19, said the deputy health minister. She had had several underlying diseases, including heart and kidney failure, Son added.

"Patient 475" was an 83-year-old woman from Danang and was treated at Danang Hospital since July 12. She has been confined to her bed for the last six years and had a stomach surgery.

She had diarrhea and stomachache on July 12 before developing a fever on July 17. The patient tested positive for the novel coronavirus and was taken into quarantine on July 30. She became severely weak afterwards, before falling into a coma at around 4:30 am today and died at 5:45 am.

Her causes of death included acute coronary syndrome, cholecystitis, osteoarthritis, hypertension and Covid-19.

The Ministry of Health on Sunday evening announced that Patient No.429, a 53-year-old female died at 4:30pm of Covid-19 and several chronic diseases such as diabetes, kidney and heart failure.

They are the fourth, fifth and sixth Covid-19 deaths in Vietnam since the pandemic outbreak late in January.

The previous three deaths were two men, aged 70 and 61, and a 68-year-old woman in Danang. All of them had several underlying conditions prior to their deaths, including hypertension, diabetes, leukemia and kidney failure.

The Ministry of Health has recorded 16 Covid-19 patients who are the elderly with many chronic diseases.

Besides, there remain 11 severely ill Covid-19 cases nationwide, including patients 416, 418, 427, 430, 431, 433, 436, 438, 453, 456 and 478. In the previous phase of fighting against the pandemic, Vietnam recorded only two or three seriously ill patients.

Dr. Luong Ngoc Khue, head of the Administration of Medical Examination and Treatment under the Ministry of Health, said that in the previous phase, Vietnam had only two health workers positive with Covid-19, but last week there were already eight at Danang General Hospital infected with the coronavirus. Among them, one is in serious progress, and if the patient's condition worsens, dialysis will be required.

Khue added that health facilities must not to be neglected in the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Since the resurgence of the disease in the community last week, Danang has recorded more than 110 cases, becoming the latest pandemic epicenter in Vietnam.

Vietnam has recorded 620 Covid-19 cases nationwide so far, of which 373 have recovered and five died.
