Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien said that in recent years, Vietnam and South Korea have organized a number of promotion activities, including Vietnam – South Korea Culture and Cuisine Festival, Korean Day in Vietnam, Vietnam Culture and Tourism Week in South Korea, South Korean Film Week in Vietnam, among others.
In addition, South Korean businesses like CJ Group have also invested in Vietnam’s cultural industry, Thien added.
Regarding tourism, Thien stressed that South Korea is the second biggest source of visitors to Vietnam. He hoped that South Korea will become Vietnam’s largest tourist market in the future.
On the sport cooperation, the minister thanked the South Korean side for hosting the training of Vietnamese athletes, including the men’s football squad and shooting athletes.
On his side, South Korean Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Park Yang-woo said that in 2018, 28 million South Koreans traveled abroad, of whom more than 4 million went to Vietnam.
Up to 4.5 million South Korea holidaymakers are expected to visit Vietnam this year, he said, hoping that the number of Vietnamese tourists to South Korea will increase sharply in the time ahead.
South Korea is willing to share its experience in cultural and sport development with Vietnam, Park said and added that his country is launching a program which offers chances for Vietnamese young people to visit South Korea and explore local culture.
On this occasion, the minister hoped that Vietnam will facilitate South Korean enterprises to invest in Vietnam’s culture industry in the future.
