The network operator will provide 5G services for customers in Hanoi, Danang, Haiphong and Ho Chi Minh City. In the testing period, 5G customers in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City will not be charged.

The services provided are data applications with high-speed eMBB, serving the needs of entertainment such as streaming music, online video (HD, UHD 4K), real-time online games (AR, VR), among others.

Vietnam Investment Review quoted MobiFone’s General Director Nguyen Dang Nguyen as saying that the network operator in September 2018 asked for permission from the ministry to test 5G, and the company will import 5G devices in the second quarter of 2019.

MobiFone will promote research and development of products and ecosystems for 5G to be able to effectively exploit the preeminent features of 5G network technology, Nguyen stressed.

Military Telecom Industry Group (Viettel) became the first network operator to get permission for 5G technology test during one year, starting January 22, 2019.

Earlier, at the conference on deploying the 2019 tasks of the MIC, the ministry said that it was promoting 4G frequency licensing and testing 5G services, aiming to commercialize 5G services in 2020.

Besides, the ministry will also study the roadmap to find the right time to shut down 2G or 3G services.
