The most remarkable achievement of Vietnam in 2020 is to successful containment of Covid-19 pandemic.

Accordingly, out of nearly 30 countries with positive gross domestic product (GDP) growth in 2020, Vietnam emerged with a growth rate of 2.91%. Vietnam's trade volume increased by 3.6% in the first 11 months of the year, reaching US$490 billion.

The article highlighted Vietnam and Russia trade relations, saying  positive progress has been achieved by both countries over the past years. Vietnam is Russia's largest trading partner in ASEAN and the fifth largest among member economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).

Russian statistics show that the country’s trade revenue with Vietnam has increased by 11.5% to US$4.6 billion in the first 10 months of 2020.

The article stated that Vietnam’s achievements are possible thanks to the successful containment of Covid-19 pandemic under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and that the pandemic prevention measures taken by Vietnamese government were not only drastic, strong, but also open and transparent. In particular, the public's reaction to the authorities' anti-pandemic measures are extremely positive.

The article noted that, the upcoming 13th National Party Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, scheduled to take place from January 25 to February 2, will evaluate the implementation of the resolutions passed at the previous congress.

It also quoted a statement by the General Secretary, State President Nguyen Phu Trong in August 2020 that the poverty rate has decreased from 9.9% in 2016 to less than 3% by 2020. The leader also emphasized the task of developing the country towards modernization and the country will try to get out of the group of countries with low-middle income by 2025.

By the year of 2030, when Vietnam Communist Party celebrates its 100th founding anniversary, the country is expected to become a developing country with modern industry and high middle-income. By 2045, when the Socialist Republic of Vietnam celebrates its 100th founding anniversary, this Southeast Asian nation will become a developed and high-income country.

Regarding to the country’s foreign policy, the author of the article stressed that Vietnam has achieved many successes in 2020, and its position is increasingly enhanced in Southeast Asia in particular and the Asia-Pacific region in general.

In 2020, as ASEAN Chair, Vietnam had successfully conducted  important meetings of the ASEAN in the form of online conferences as well as promoted the signing of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). The article noted that on the first day of 2020, Vietnam assumed the post of a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

Appreciating Vietnam's peaceful foreign policy, the  author argued that both  Vietnam and Russia, with a similar approach, will contribute to consolidating peace and stability in the region.
