The young painter’s artworks are the mixture of playfulness and subtle irony, depicting the mundane woes of human life.

A solo exhibition entitled One Endless Summer by Hanoian painter Do Trong Quy is on display at Apricot Art Space (Mo Art Space), No 136 Hang Trong Street in Hanoi.

The exhibition is opened to the public from 10 am to 7 pm daily until June 13 (except Monday) for free admission with a maximum of 10 people per visit. To ensure safety, visitors are required to wear a facemask and use hand sanitizer before entering the exhibition space.

Being inspired by one-liner jokes, Do Trong Quy’s large-scale paintings are still life landscapes of mixed playfulness and subtle irony, depicting the mundane woes of human life.

For a year now, Quy has incorporated imagery from his toy collection – including cars, boats, animals, and tiny people, into landscapes of household objects, creating dramatic encounters in the whimsical world of figures.

The space of Quy’s toys is a binary world of figuration and abstraction, where the placement of the toys retains an aesthetic appeal as ‘still life painting,’ while forming a complete bond between the objects. In One Endless Summer, the artist chooses an assertion of everyday life to lavish his scrutiny on small objects to offer other narratives to the commonplace.

The artist’s toys are indeed an equivalence with the most celebrated of objects.

Born in 1994 in Hanoi, young artist Do Trong Quy graduated from Hanoi College of Art, then pursued his training in painting at Vietnam University of Fine Arts in 2020. Since his junior years, he has collaborated with Dong Phong Gallery.

One Endless Summer presents his latest artworks completed in the past year and depicts his emotional experiences through inanimate toys.
