Nearly 10,000 people to join walk to mark 20th anniversary of Hanoi's recognition as City for Peace

Hanoi People’s Committee will organize many activities to mark the 20th anniversary of the city’s recognition as City for Peace by the UNESCO General Assembly.
Nearly 10,000 people are expected to join a walk for peace during the ceremony to mark the 20th anniversary of Hanoi’s recognition as City for Peace at Ly Thai To square on July 16, Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Culture and Sports Bui Thi Thu Hien at a press conference on July 9.

On this occasion, Hanoi also announced a plan on building “Hanoi – a creative city” dossiers to apply for the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. In addition, the Hanoi People’s Committee will also organize several cultural and sport activities, including two night music concerts with the theme “I Love Hanoi”, “Light Up Peace Signs” at Ly Thai To square from July 13 to 14; exhibition space for the embassies in Hanoi in Le Thach street from July 13 to 14; artistic activities for Bai Choi, Nhac Nha Cung Dinh Hue, Ca Tru in Ly Thai To square from July 13 to 14, and Hanoi cuisine space.
A photo exhibition will be held this time with theme “Friendship Village” in Le Thach street, foreign organizations and embassies will set up pavilions introducing their cultures including those from China, India and Laos.
In addition, there are several documentary films on Hanoi will be on air during this time, including “Hanoi – City for Peace”, “Keeping the fire of peace”, “Hanoi’s soul”, among others.
Book lovers are expected to join the 2019 Hanoi Book Festival with theme “Hanoi – City for Peace”, which is scheduled to take places from October 2 to 6 at Thang Long – Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center and the publication of a photo book titled “Hanoi – 20th anniversary of the city’s recognition as City for Peace”.
In 1999, Hanoi was among five cities in five continents being conferred the “City for Peace” title by the UNESCO which recognized its contributions to the struggle for peace as well as its development that meet the organization’s standards of equality in the community, the urban construction, living environmental protection, culture and education promotion, and care for young generations.
