The digital map data is expected to be further updated in the future by postmen and postwomen across Vietnam.
A digital map platform developed by Vietnamese engineers, known as Vmap, has recently been launched, providing the accurate details of any particular area of Vietnam, local media reported.

The service, available at https://vmap.vn, is the result of a joint effort of Vietnam Post, the Ho Chi Minh Youth Union and the Vietnam National University in Hanoi, as part of the national digital knowledge system.

Vmap, the basic data platform including map and address data layer, was created from data collected in more than three months by 120,000 postal workers and youth union members who went from door to door nationwide to gather information.

They used a mobile app to take photos and collect the coordinates, detailed addresses and other information of points of interests, such as hospitals, schools, restaurants, hotels, banks and markets.

Vmap currently has data on 23.4 million addresses across the country and offers basic features such as location search and directions.

Moreover, Vmap can display different map layers for different uses and show addresses as detailed as house numbers and its locations.

The map data is expected to be further updated in the future by postmen and postwomen across the country.

The trial version has reached many users in Vietnam, including numerous Vietnamese businesses.

Chairman of the Vietnam E-commerce Association Le Thanh Hung said e-commerce enterprises need digital mapping services but most services that they are using are provided by foreign companies and their data are not localized.

He expects that Vmap will provide rich data and features to benefit enterprises, especially those operating in e-commerce and logistics.

Besides, the Humanitarian Information System (iNhandao) has been launched.

The iNhandao system, https://nhandao.itrithuc.vn, will display information about humanitarian addresses proposed by the user community across the country such as lonely elderly people, people with serious diseases, and people in areas affected by natural disasters.

The iNhandao system has developed humanitarian address data. Since its operation, nearly 60,000 humanitarian addresses have been surveyed, of which 17,000 were updated to iNhandao system.

It will contribute to improving the efficiency and quality of humanitarian assistance activities of the Vietnam Red Cross through digital map system and electronic applications.
