Int’l plaudits for Vietnam’s proposals at APEC 22
Vna/Hanoitimes 14:27, 2014/11/12
The Vietnam delegation has made positive contributions to all major issues of the 22nd APEC Summit, notably those related to the maintenance of peace and stability for economic recovery, cooperation and development.

On November 11, State President Truong Tan Sang and his senior delegation returned to Hanoi, concluding their attendance at the 22nd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Beijing, China.

Deputy Foreign Minster Bui Thanh Son granted a media interview on the outcomes of the meeting.

Regarding the outstanding results of the 22nd APEC Summit, Son highlighted the special significance of the event that marked the 25-year path of APEC’s development (1989-2014) and the 20 year-implementation of the Bogor Goals and trade facilitation and investment (1994-2014).

The meeting took place in the context of slow and unsustainable economic recovery than expected and the stagnated Dohar round and tougher global challenges.

However, the summit continued to affirm APEC’s role in building a stronger partnership for an Asia Pacific region of peace, stability, connectivity and prosperity.

Concerning Vietnam’s contributions to the overall success of the APEC Summit this year and other important activities, Son said the Vietnam delegation made proposals on economic reform and growth associated with sustainable development, the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the post-2015 Development Agenda as well as response to global challenge needs, including food and water resource security, natural disasters and rescue work.

The delegation emphasized that cooperation should be developed on the basis of mutual benefit, taking into account the development level of members and support for capacity building, especially in new generation economic and trade issues

APEC members adopted our proposal on APEC’s strengthened cooperation in education and training, public-private partnership (PPP), scientific and technological application and support for sub-regional connections including inland and island ASEAN and the Mekong sub-region.

They also appreciated the results achieved at the 6th APEC Ministerial Meeting on human resources development which was successfully held in Vietnam last September.

We also highlighted the potential for cooperation, development priorities of ASEAN and Vietnam, as well as ASEAN's role in initiating ideas, promoting links in APEC and the Asia-Pacific region. Many business representatives pledged their assistance for the implementation of our priorities in economic restructuring and international integration, including infrastructure development, capital resources, technology and capacity building.
