Happy Dussehra 2018, India’s best wishes for Hanoians
Draping Sarees, a Hindu traditional attire, clapping to the rhythm of Garba dance or learning Henna painting; Hanoians are treated to the showcase of Indian cultural quintessence during the Diwali and Dussehra Celebration.
Diwali, the Indian Festival of Lights, and Dussehra, marking the victory of Lord Rama, were observed at the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center by the Indian embassy in Hanoi on November 2
Visitors to the event enjoyed a range of activities including culinary teaching, lamp lighting and curry dishes tasting which were held with free access.
“The Center wishes to provide meaningful cultural immersion experiences to Vietnamese and other friends of India,” said G. B. Harisha, director of the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center.
Diwali in 2018 will start on Tuesday, the 6th of November and will continue for 5 days until Saturday, the 10th of November. Diwali symbolizes the victory of good over evil. The lamps are lit as a sign of celebration and hope. It is one of the most popular holidays in Hindu countries. Meanwhile, Dussehra in 2018 was celebrated on Thursday, the 18th of October.
The two festivals are celebrated to mark the victory of light over darkness, of good over evil and of right over might. These Indian festivals are also celebrated in many Southeast Asian countries.
Diwali is one of India’s most important festivals organized at the end of October or the beginning of November to welcome the New Year according to Hindu calendar.
The event offers a chance for Indian people to show their respect for Goddess Lakshmi – a symbol of happiness, prosperity, beauty and faith in the victory of the fight between good and evil.
The festival has been organized in 13 countries in the world. In Hanoi, the festival not only displays the beauty of light, traditional costumes of India, but offers participants a chance to join various activities while enjoying Indian food and music.
