On the occasion of the 650th death anniversary of eminent educator Chu Van An, a delegation of Hanoi leaders led by Deputy Secretary of the city Party Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong offered incense in commemoration to those who contributed to the country's education at the relic of Chu Van An Temple in Chi Linh city, Hai Duong province on November 13.

Joining the delegation were Vice Chairwoman of the Hanoi Municipal People's Council Phung Thi Hong Ha, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Ngo Van Quy and Hai Duong province's leaders.

At the event, the delegates paid tribute to the respected teacher Chu Van An, who devoted his life to the formation of humane persons. One of his key teachings was that learning should go hand in hand with practicing and learning is a lifetime undertaking.

His thoughts and wisdom not only left a lasting legacy on Vietnamese education, but also contributed to promoting national humanistic values. Chu Van An’s educational perspective features a number of progressive values considered to be similar to the UNESCO’s four pillars of learning: learning to know, learning to do, learning to live together, and learning to be humans.

Chu Van An Temple is located in the place where he retired and opened a school, including three areas: temple dedicated to him, his tomb and Luu Quang Temple. The whole work was restored and built according to the Vietnamese traditional architecture.

The Hanoi People’s Committee and relevant agencies in coordination with the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO will organize the commemoration of the 650th death anniversary of Chu Van An on November 20 at the capital historic Temple of Literature with the participation of 500 delegates. An art program will be held to commemorate the legendary Confucius master and celebrate Vietnamese Teachers' Day (November 20, 1982 - November 20, 2020).
