Hanoi Sewerage and Drainage Company has installed 44 automatic rain gauge stations, 50 automatic water level measurement stations, 31 cameras to monitor flooding points in the rainy season.

Hanoi Sewerage and Drainage Company has been progressively applying information technology to prevent flood and improve the efficiency of sewerage work in the rainy season, Kinhtedothi.vn reported.

The company’s sewerage controlling center was established in 2016 with a view to computerizing management and improving service quality.

The center greatly contributes to sewerage and flood prevention in the capital city by managing rainfall and water levels, monitoring pumping stations, sluice gates and flooding video surveillance in the system.

According to a company executive, the company has proactively built "Operation plan of the sewerage in the Nhue and To Lich river basins" in order to improve the efficiency of the sewer system.

Especially, the plan can help the company’s staff review the operation history of the system to access, learn experience and propose more effective solutions for the sewerage system.

Besides, since coming into operation March 2018, the company’s sewerage monitoring center has been maximizing the effectiveness of flood prevention in the rainy season.

The center has installed integrated surveillance camera systems at 16 flooding points and pumping stations, ensuring 24/7 supervision and sewerage operation when it rains. As a result, the time of water stagnation at these points has been shortened by at least 30 minutes.

Hanoi focuses on developing the HSDC Maps system

Hanoi Sewerage and Drainage Company has also been building a system to monitor, alert and help people’s mobility in the rainy season called HSDC Maps.

Specifically, the company has installed 44 automatic rain gauge stations, 50 automatic water level measurement stations, 31 cameras to monitor flooding points to contribute to improving the efficiency of drainage management and operation.

Nguyen Viet Huong, deputy general director of the company, said that HSDC Maps application targets at finding ways to avoid flood, rain and flood warnings, devising maps of flooded locations, and reporting the situation to the center with description and photos taken at the scene.

Based on the report, the operating center will ask relevant agencies to give proper response and feedback to the users as soon as possible, Huong added.

In 2019, the HSDC Maps application registered more than 15,000 downloads. In 2020, the company will keep upgrading and developing this app to serve people’s travel needs in the rainy season.

Specifically, based on the flood data on the map and the location of the users, the software will issue warnings to the user within a radius of 0.5 - 1.0 kilometer.

Currently, the HSDC Maps application is being provided for free on iOS and Android operating systems. For installation, users can download it from the app stores or the website www.thoatnuochanoi.vn.
