The event aims to mark its 64th anniversary of liberation (May 13) of the city from French troops. Major activities include a fireworks display in 15 minutes on May 10. The festival aims at introducing the city’s socio-economic achievements to local and foreign investors, thus helping fuel social, economic and tourism growth.
To make the festival a success, the local government will ensure urban order, road safety, environmental sanitation, cultural and urban civilization, among others.
The annual cultural and tourism event was initiated in 2011, through the idea of showcasing the city’s abundant and beautiful typical flower blossoms, to promote and boost the city’s tourism.
Over the last seasons, the Flamboyant Flower Festival has become an acclaimed festival of the port city, symbolizing and praising its people and land. Renowned as the city of flamboyant flower, Haiphong is a peaceful city of wide tree lined boulevards .
As one of the important commercial and industrial hubs in northern Vietnam, the city is striving to make tourism a spearhead economic sector and turn itself into one of the nation’s key tourism destinations.
According to the municipal People’s Committee’s action programme on tourism development from 2017 – 2020 with a vision through 2030, Haiphong hopes to receive 8 million tourists and earn VND3.5 trillion (US$154 million) with expected annual average growth rates of between 8.2% and 8.9%.
